Calendula officinalis, or pot marigolds, are a cool weather annual easily grown in springtime. They flourish in full to part sun in poor soil during the cool weather of springtime. The orange flowers are cut and used for various remedies. Both bittersweet and salty, calendula flowers may be used fresh or dried to treat various esternal skin conditions such as eczema, ringworm, athelete's foot, skin rashes, and sore nipples. Taken internally, calendula flowers sooth the digestive system, reduce inflammation and clear infections. The flowers are commonly taken internally as a tincture or infusion to deal with problems such as ulcers, hepatitus, swollen glands and pelvic inflammatory diseases. Easy to grow and use, this herb has a variety of beneficial uses!
