Using Yarrow In The Northern Virginia Landscape
05/02/2008
Yarrow (Achillea millifolium) is a perennial herb well suited to hot, dry locations. Its flattened flowers in May and June resemble Queen Anne's lace, and depending on the variety, may be white, yellow or pink. Highly fragrant, yarrow flowers make excellent cut flowers and dry well. The foliage of the plant closely resembles a fern, and provides landscapers an opportunity to provide a fernlike effect in sunny locations. This herb is also useful medicinally, and has traditionally been used to treat arthritis, the common cold and cramps. Once rooted, yarrow is a carefree, long lasting perennial which will flower each spring and provide scented cut flowers in the spring.
